What is “The Old, the Young & the Sea”?

OYS is a movie project by a team of cinematographers, photographers and storytellers, who were brought together for a 20 week long journey along the European surf coast in two old VW buses. During this journey the team went from town to town, asked around for interesting, important or typical characters for the region and interviewed them. Sometimes nothing happened, sometimes the team stumbled into exciting, heartwarming, interesting and spectacular stories. Bundled together, the best stories, the ones that make Europe come alive on screen, will find their way into a feature length movie about the Atlantic coastline.

It’s surf and life. Check out our photo gallery and you’ll notice: it’s not just pro surfers – it’s a broad of mixture just about everyone you would meet on a surf trip… There are fishermen in Galicia, street artists in Bilbao, scientists from Asturias, free surfers in Biarritz, activists from San Sebastian, politicians in Portugal and travelers who met the team multiple times at different locations. What our characters have in common: It’s people that love the sea, some protect it, some even dedicated their life to it.

Long story short: It’s a filmic and photographic portrait of the atlantic coast from the perspective of sea lovers.

The final movie will be released 2013.
