You are crazy! You can’t do that. Ok, let’s do that! /how-to-write-a-movie-concept/ /how-to-write-a-movie-concept/#comments Fri, 27 Apr 2012 22:33:52 +0000 The Crew /?p=186

Where there is passion there is a way. Sounds easy but…let’s have a closer look on that: Take a handful of dare devil like media pros, some, no, a lot of craziness and a long wind. That’s key to success. So how do you get this handful of media-outlaws to be willing to go through hell with you? Pay them a fortune or lure them with a unique idea and vaccine them with a lot of passion. The former was impossible, the latter can work well when you have a smart concept.

About project concepting
When starting a surf movie project you have ABSOLUTELY no idea, what is lying ahead of you. But you have a concept you can stick to. At least you should have one. A good concept can kickstart your project though it won’t pay you the rent. At least it won’t for a long time.

There is truck loads full of books telling you how to write a nice, catchy super seller concept but in the end it’s always up to you, your story and your will to go from start to finish.

Sit down with your core crew, friends, crazy people believing in you and tell them about your idea. Tell the world about your idea and  listen. What do they say? Ok, if you have a really good project that has never done before they will definitely say:”Man you are crazy! You can’t do that” if you hear that at least once you can be almost sure that you are into something hot. Go on! Do you think you stumbled uppon something special but you are asking yourself over and over again: “If this is something special, why hasn’t it be done before by someone else, someone more experienced?” Well, let’s try to explain it the bold way: Perhaps it has been thought by some people before, but all these folks just haven’t started with the first step (yet).

Do the first step: Write the concept paper for your movie project
Tell more and more people about your idea, collect thoughts, take notes, write and rewrite. Try the hermeneutic circle approach to conduct a first concept draft. Is it concise? Try to tweek it until it has a start and a real end. Tell a story, but be brief. And don’t forget: ideas from your mates are valuable but you are the one in charge. And don’t forget: Be the one who starts it all!

Note: We are not knowing it all. There is millions of ways to approach a project. Check our movie concept and decide by yourself: Does it work?
